JUNE 1-JUNE 7, 2022: SAN JUANS – POET’S COVE – PIRATE’S COVE – NANAIMO BC

Sunshine in the San Juans and Canadian Hospitality

The fingers along Sucia Island in the San Juans were our first and certainly among the loveliest anchorages of our trip. We spent a couple of sunny days fine tuning the boat and doing some electronics work. We crossed the US /Canada border at Pender Island, BC and had an easy time getting through Canadian customs despite declaring Coco, bear spray, a bear gun and ammo. And a few rogue apples and nectarines. We anchored at Pirates Cove in BC and did our first stern tie with the dingy. There actually is a treasure chest in Pirate’s Cove with goodies on shore, mostly for kids to explore.

Next stop was the hospitable Nanaimo Yacht Club where we spent several days and had our first shower, laundry and grocery stop. The Canadian people are incredibly nice and many folks we met, like the NYC harbormaster and Commodore, were generous with advice and support.
