June 30 - July 3 - AT LAST BACK IN THE OCEAN: WRANGELL - PT DECEPTION - PORTAGE BAY - CHAPIN BAY

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

We left the dock June 30th and headed to Pt Protection at the foot of the Wrangell Narrows. Stayed here for a bit then had a lovely travel up the 'cut', turned left past Petersburg and arrived at Portage Bay in Frederick Sound to calm and lovely conditions. We even enjoyed (at nearly midnight) the rise of the nearly full moon.

July 3, we went all the way across Frederick Sound at the top of Kupreanof Island and crossed over to Admiralty Island where we anchored at Chapin Bay. Along the way we had everything we could have wanted to see: Bald eagles, whales, dolphins and sunshine.

Tried a little fishing at the entrance to the bay here but there was a juvenile whale who was also fishing and we let the whale have the fish tonight. Looks like pasta tonight after all.
